capricorn AUTOMOTIVE expands its bore coating service

capricorn AUTOMOTIVE can offer the complete coating and honing service either in separate cylinder liners, direct coated engine blocks, or as block-liner conversions. The advanced coating can be applied to cast iron or aluminium equally effectively opening up the opportunity for enhancing the performance of cast iron engine blocks which are traditionally limited in coating options. With the specialist finish honing of the bores, the coating offers a naturally porous structure that retains oil, assisting in reducing the oil film break-down at ring reversal positions that generally leads to both increased wear and friction.

Improved engine efficiency by reducing friction is one of the the key targets for all engine designers and tuners. For road engines this may be directed at fuel economy whilst in race applications at increased power. Whatever the application, the SUMEBore® Coating option supplied by capricorn AUTOMOTIVE should be a serious consideration.

Martin Keswick, Managing Director of capricorn AUTOMOTIVE Ltd. States: "the addition of this range of high-quality specialist coatings to our existing portfolio significantly increases our ability to offer a solution for most engine bore applications. We are very pleased to be working closely with Sulzer Metco where we jointly look forward to expanding the use of this coating in all market segments” SUMEBore® coatings alongside their traditional Nickel Silicon Carbide.

capricorn AUTOMOTIVE, in collaboration with the Swiss corporation Sulzer Metco, is now offering a range of plated engine bores. The plasma-applied materials offered range from Iron Molybdenum for high performance applications to Steel Ceramics for diesel engines including corrosion and abrasion resistant variants specifically for EGR use.
