capricorn FONDERIA srl, located in Modena Italy, has more than 30 years of experience and as a specialist for precision aluminum gravity sand castings, has been producing engine and gearboxes components for some of the most important Italian “Granturismo” producers. Over the years the company expanded in other demanding markets such as sea engines and automatic machines supplying many different kind of parts to important international groups.

Typical products of the FONDERIA are development and pre-series parts, but also small and medium series where high quality of sand casting is necessary. Along with engine components, the FONDERIA has developed know how for many other parts for automotive and motorcycle applications, hubs, drum brakes, gear cases and for industrial applications such as valves, rotors, high pressure resistant parts.

capricorn FONDERIA has cultivated long term relations with many engineering companies producing components for engines from 1 to 12 cylinders. Recently we also established a relationship with Modena’s engineering University in order to develop an experimental vacuum supported sand casting process.

PRODUCTION FONDERIA

The sand casting gravity process used in capricorn FONDERIA leaves maximum casting flexibility in terms of numbers and weights. Parts can vary from 50 gr. to 80 Kg. Typical alloys for engines such as AlSi7 and AlSi10 with different contents of Mn, Mg and Cu, Fe, but also using alloys to costumers’ specifications. There are 3 casting lines, 2 manual and 1 semi-automatic where batches with bigger volumes are produced. Cores are produced both internally and externally and models are developed together with 2 specialized companies.
